TAPESTRY WEAVING

with Nancy Sharples

Tapestry is an ancient art form that allows the weaver to create geometric or pictorial images within the woven structure.  Navajo rugs and Medieval tapestries are examples of the breadth of these traditional weaving techniques.

By working on a small board loom, students will create a “mini- tapestry” about 6” x 8”.  Techniques will include weaving stripes, blocks, triangles and organic shapes plus hatched lines and rep stripes.  This will allow the student to create designs in an individual yet wide range of styles.

Note:  All materials will be provided, but you must go to the Art Center to pick up the supplies that will be needed for this course.  You will also need a small pair of scissors.

Tuesdays and Thursdays, December 1, 3, and 8; 1pm – 2:30pm
