    Pint 'N Print

    Come enjoy a fun evening where you can try out printmaking!  Learn the basics of blind embossing/debossing! What is embossing/debossing? It is a technique that uses pressure to press textures and designs into paper. No ink is required to create an image! Saratoga Arts will be supplying beverages, supported by Walt Whitman, as well as non-alcoholic beverages. 

    All materials and tools will be provided for the class.  

    Must be 21+ to register.

    Introduction to Screenprinting

    taught by Ally DeRusso

    Learn the basics of screenprinting! We will use techniques like paper stencils and screen filler to create a 3 color design on paper creating 10 final prints. You will learn how to pull a print, how to mix ink, and register each layer.

    Session 1: Plan your design! We will begin by looking at some example screen prints, sketching our designs, and learning how to translate them into stencils. A demo of how to print and mix ink will be given.

    Session 2:  Printing! You will screen print your design this class, learn how to register each layer, and how to edition your work. 

    Students will be able to take home their screen to use again!

    All materials and tools will be provided for the class.

    Introduction to Woodcut

    taught by Colleen Cox


    Woodcut is the oldest form of relief printmaking. In this one day workshop, students will learn the basics of woodcut printmaking, including transferring an image to a block, various approaches to carving, and producing a series of prints.

    All materials and tools will be provided for the class.  

    This class can be repeatedly taken, allowing you to have a new found understanding of the process each time!

    This is a chance to use our open studio hours to work independently on your project and discuss ideas with other printmakers. Ally is here for basic questions and troubleshooting when using the studio space. Shared consumables like ink, newsprint, cleaning supplies, etc. are provided. Bring your own plates/blocks and paper. We have carving tools, brayers, scribes, etc for you to use!

    Open to all levels, but no instruction is given.

    Pre-registration required as there is limited space!

    Introduction to Gelli Plate Printing

    Beginner Drypoint

    Learn the very basics of drypoint intaglio on plexiglass! Drypoint intaglio is a technique where you draw directly onto a plate using an etching needle. You will learn how to translate your drawings to a plexiglass plate and see a demo of the steps to printing a plate. You will leave we a few prints of your plate!

    Monotypes with Natural Materials

    taught by Xander Farmer


    Come learn to make one-of-a-kind prints with natural and found printmaking materials! Learn the basics of monotype printing and explore the capabilities of natural materials in prints. Monotype prints are typically composed on a plexiglass sheet or other flat surface, and subsequently pressed onto paper or another desired surface. Unlike others types of printmaking, monotype cannot be reproduced, so each piece is truly unique. If you have any materials (i.e. flowers, twigs, grasses, etc) that you are interested in printing with, feel free to bring them to the workshop!

    All materials and tools will be provided for the class.

    Introduction to Reduction Linocut

    taught by Colleen Cox


    Reduction linocut is a technique to create multi-colored images by only using one block. You begin by carving away part of your design, printing it, carving more and printing again on the same paper. You will learn how to translate your drawing onto a block, how to plan what to carve, and the process of carving and printing. You will walk away with a few prints of your image!

    All materials and tools will be provided for the class.  

    This class can be repeatedly taken, allowing you to have a newfound understanding of the process each time!

    Introduction to Monotype

    taught by Christian Wechgelaer

    Monotype is a printmaking process that creates one unique print. This process is organic allowing for infinite possibilities, often resulting in painterly prints.  Students will learn and explore the basics of monotype printmaking in this one day workshop and given the opportunity to experiment and play with the medium.

    All materials are included. However, students are encouraged to bring flat objects like strings, leaves, fabric, etc. that can be run through the press. 

    This class can be repeatedly taken, allowing you to have a newfound understanding of the process each time!

    Pint 'N Print

    Come enjoy a fun evening where you can try out printmaking! This event is an informal activity where you will learn how to carve and print a block print! What is a block print? Block prints or linocuts are a type of relief printmaking. Using carving tools you cut away the linoleum to create your design, what is carved away will be white and the remaining areas will be inked! A brayer is used to roll ink onto the block and can be printed by hand or with a printing press. 

    All materials and tools will be provided for the class.  

    This class is being hosted at Walt Whitman Brewery located at 20 Lake Ave, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866

    Must be 21+ to register.
