    Character Creation & Comic Books

    This workshop offers instruction on how to develop one’s personal style using inspiration from comics and manga. You will learn about traditional design elements of comic books and create your own panels starring their unique characters!

    All materials and tools will be provided for the class.

    Exquisite Corpse: A Printmaking Collaboration

    taught by Katie Peterson

    Ages 10-17

    Summer 2024 Teen Workshops: Week 2

    2 Day Workshop, Monday July 8th and Tuesday July 9th, 2024 1:00 -4:00 PM  

    In this collaborative teen workshop, each student will begin by designing their own unique character to be block printed as an edition (multiple identical prints.) Then, students will assemble their unique creations into a book that mixes and matches elements from one character with another, creating never-before-seen creatures: the Exquisite Corpse!

    All materials and tools will be provided for the class.

    Tapestry Weaving

    taught by Nancy Sharples

    Summer 2024 Teen Workshops: Week 3

    4 Day Workshop, Mon July 8th-Thurs July 11th, 2024 1:00 -4:00 PM  

    Work on a frame loom and learn tapestry weaving techniques like those used in Navajo rugs and Medieval tapestries. Learn how to weave stripes, boxes, curves and other shapes to create a small wool hanging of your own design. Students will also have a chance to work on a floor loom to weave a small sample piece of cloth.

    All materials and tools for the workshop will be provided.

    Illustrate Your Breath

    1 Day Workshop, Tuesday, July 30th, 2024 1:00 -4:00 PM  

    Whether you are new to gentle breathwork or have an established breathing practice, this workshop invites you to witness and draw how the breath ebbs and flows throughout your day. You will learn the physical and mental benefits of conscious breathing through practicing gentle breathing techniques, while developing an understanding of how the environment and your emotions change your breath's quality.

    Each student will receive a blank journal to illustrate the breath not only during the workshop sessions but in between the two sessions when they feel called. The intention is for attendees to leave each hour of the workshop restored and more aware of the precious power of their breath to invigorate creativity and possibility.

    All materials and tools will be provided for the class.

     In this collaborative teen workshop, each student will design and create their own printing block, which will be printed in an edition (multiple identical prints.) Each student will edition enough prints to assemble into a book for their classmates. Get a taste of various printmaking techniques, and leave with a collection of your and your classmates’ prints!

    You will embark on a fun journey into the world of sewing by creating their very own adorable (and tiny) stuffed animals. Through step-by-step guidance and hands-on instruction, you'll learn essential sewing techniques while creating charming miniature creatures. We'll explore the fundamentals of hand sewing, including basic stitches, pattern reading, embroidery techniques.

    Also, delve into the art of stuffing and shaping, learning how to design, conceptualize, and bring your creatures to life with personality and character.     Calling all fashion-forward teens! Join us for an exciting journey into the world of embroidery. In this hands-on session, you will learn the art of embellishing and customizing clothing with beautiful and intricate embroidery designs. From adding custom illustrations, to using pre made designs and adding your own flair, you'll learn basic embroidery skills and leave with something incredible to show. In addition, we will have beads, sequins, and fabric markers to allow whatever is imagined to come to life!

From composition and lighting to posing and expression, you'll learn essential photography techniques and gain practical skills for capturing striking self-portraits.

    By the end of the workshop, each of you will have crafted your own unique clay game board, complete with sculpted game pieces, ready to be showcased or enjoyed for countless hours of gameplay with friends and family.

    Capturing Emotion in Sculpture

    taught by Cheryl Bielli

    Summer 2024 Teen Workshops: Week 7

    2 Day Workshop, Wed & Thurs, Aug 14th-15th, 2024 1:00 -4:00 PM  

    Day 1: Sculptor Alberto Giacometti captured the human condition masterfully in gaunt, craggy, elongated figures. Using wire, padding and plaster, students will express a human emotion in 3D after some brief figure drawing, and acting!

    Day 2: Sculptor Alexander Calder also captured emotion through non-kinetic wire sculptures, demonstrating expressive line in portraits. Using wire and sketching, students will reflect another human emotion in 3D.

    All materials and tools for the workshop will be provided.

    Abstract Gourd Animal Container

    taught by Timothy Sauter

    Summer 2024 Teen Workshops: Week 8

    2 Day Workshop, Mon Aug 19th & Tues Aug 20th, 2024 1:00-4:00 PM  

    You will create a container inspired by an animal (to use for plants, bowls, snacks, table center piece) from one large gourd and several gourd pieces and other materials. Drilling, carving, scraping, molding, painting, gluing are done. Shellac and other sealers are applied.

    Please bring a printed color image of an animal for a reference. All other materials and tools will be provided for the class.
