Artist Statement

Each one of my watercolors reflects a conversation between myself and the medium, guided by observation, layering, and a willingness to let go of control and listen to what the painting wants to become. Through both abstract and representational subjects, I aim to reveal beauty in the ordinary and to connect viewers with feelings of peace, nostalgia, and wonder. The movement and luminosity found in watercolor enables me to capture fleeting moments, whether in landscapes, architecture, or botanicals. My artistic process relies on both intentional composition and spontaneous experimentation—letting water, pigment, and paper work together to shape each painting’s final story. Above all, I hope those who encounter my work will experience the peacefulness and joy I felt when I created it.

Millet’s work has been exhibited extensively in group shows in the Capital District of NY. Her current solo show in November 2025 is at the Ballston Library in Burnt Hills, NY.

Mary Frances holds a BS in Sociology from UAlbany and Ashford University. She also graduated from Maria Colleges program in occupational therapy.

When she’s not in her studio, she teaches community art workshops, most recently at Mohawk Valley Art Shoppe. In the summer of 2025, she taught classes at the ArtsCenter of Yates County in the Finger Lakes, NY.
