Artist Statement

Lacking a steady hand needed to paint or illustrate, I took to photography and computer graphics to satisfy my creative urge.

I began shooting scenic vistas along Coastal Maine, The Hudson Valley, New York City and my native Capital District. As places close to my heart, they still are, and will remain, subjects of my work. However, after attending a number of workshops, I’ve expanded my repertoire in an effort to capture the picture buried in the picture. It is in this way that images arouse curiosity forcing us think about shapes, lines, contrast, light and texture. We can then see and appreciate pieces of the mosaic ever present in our field of vision.

Other works offer indistinct images of people as they interact in or with their surroundings or just pass through obliviously in transit. These pictures tell a story and challenge our interpreting skills and sometimes trigger our emotions.

I see artistic photography as a path enriching the senses, enhancing decor and invigorating imagination. Through lessons and practice we use our eyes, our mind and camera to capture our surroundings in a way that works.
