Artist Statement
I gravitated to pastel as my medium of choice in 2018 after
years as an acrylic painter. There’s something about being immersed in dust and
how one tiny mark can change the mood. My work is primarily on surfaces I
create to hold the pigment. I am playing with various teeth techniques to weave
my love of brush strokes into a medium that is without texture.
Jill studied
drawing and painting for 10 years with Neva Powell at the Rockland Center for
the Arts in West Nyack, NY and wrote extensively about art and music in
newspapers and national magazines throughout college where she majored in
journalism and minored in fine arts. Jill took beginning and advanced pastel
classes at Saratoga Arts with Carolyn Justice. She is a member of the
Adirondack Pastel Society and has had her art selected for juried exhibits as
well as displayed in numerous venues in the Capital District. Jill is available
for commissioned work.
