Art has always been a way for me to truly show my inner self and thought. I am always looking inward to figure myself out, why I create what I create and where it comes from.
The Path Home was born from a deep longing for stability. Growing up my mother had a hard time making ends meet so we often got evicted from our apartments. I never really knew how to stay comfortable in one location for too long, because my environment was always changing. This collection is my search for what it means to find a home.
Out the Window comes from a place of insecurity. I carry a great deal of self-doubt and limiting beliefs that have followed me for most of my life. Often time it feels like I’m keeping myself inside from the world, like I can only watch it but never participate in it. In truth it’s just me holding me back from the world.
Through the Window is about reflection. I have made many mistakes, made a couple of bad turns, been hurt, used and judged. But when I look at myself honestly I see a tree. Something that doesn’t stop growing, who became strong enough to weather any storms. And have learned that each season comes with new opportunities.
To me, trees are the most honest symbol of growth. They don't grow in straight lines. They bend toward light wherever they can find it. I hope that in sitting with this work, you find something of yourself in that image too still rooted, still reaching.
