Artist Statement

The artistic gene runs in my family. My grandfather and maternal aunt were commercial artists, a grandmother sang with the Metropolitan Opera, and my brother had a career as a skilled choral director and teacher. For twenty years I worked as a graphic designer a job that sharpened my drawing and design skills.

My painting is and always has been representational. When I come across an image that inspires me it's because I'm attracted to the image, the potential color, composition, and especially the emotional impact. It excites me and I say to myself, "there's a painting." Sometimes the image sits in my head for days, months, years, before I remember that particular image and I'm inspired to paint it. Hopefully this excitement transfer to the canvas.

Any type of image will attract me to paint and usually in a series, although my series are very short, sometimes only 3 or 4 canvases before the excitement fades. If I have the time, I'm joyfully painting almost every day.
