    Pint N' Print

    with Ally DeRusso

    Come enjoy a fun evening where you can try out printmaking! This event is an informal activity where you will learn how to carve and print a block print! What is a block print? Block prints or linocuts are a type of relief printmaking. Using carving tools you cut away the linoleum to create your design, what is carved away will be white and the remaining areas will be inked! A brayer is used to roll ink onto the block and can be printed by hand or with a printing press. Saratoga Arts will be supplying beverages, supported by Nine Pin and Walt Whitman Brewery, as well as non-alcoholic beverages. 

    Must be 21+ to register.

    Introduction to Linocut

    taught by Jean Ellen Sotansky


    Learn an overview of linoleum printing or "block printing".  You will learn how to translate a drawing onto a block, how to carve, and print! We'll make two blocks in this class. Beginning with a single color block that is 5 x 7 inches. Then we will create multi-color prints in a larger size! 

    All materials and tools will be provided for the class.

    Beginner Drypoint

    taught by Christian Wechgelaer

    Learn the very basics of drypoint intaglio on plexiglass! Drypoint intaglio is a technique where you draw directly onto a plate using an etching needle. You will learn how to translate your drawings to a plexiglass plate and how to print the plates. 

    Session 1: Sketching an image or collage that you will learn how to draw on a plexiglass plate

    Session 2: A demo reviewing the steps of printing a plate will be given, then you will print your own plates!

    All materials and tools will be provided for the class.

    Exploring Monotype

    taught by Emily Roztocil


    Whether you’re a new or experienced printmaker, monotype printmaking is a fun and approachable method to get the creative juices flowing. Monotype is extremely versatile, and can be a very satisfying way to churn out prints and ideas. Or, if you prefer to work more slow-paced and precisely, monotype will fit your desires as well. Come what this workshop has to offer!

    Collage and Drypoint

    Learn the art of collaging while printing! This technique is called chine colle, it can be used to add a background color or selective coloring to your prints. Drypoint intaglio is a technique where you draw directly onto a plate using an etching needle. You will learn how to translate your drawings to a plexiglass plate and how to print the plates. 

    Session 1: You will learn to create a drypoint plate on plexiglass, be shown how to print a plate, and how to add collage elements to work!

    Introduction to Screenprinting

    taught by Ally DeRusso

    Learn the basics of screenprinting! We will use techniques like paper stencils and screen filler to create a 3-4 color design on paper creating 10 final prints. You will learn how to pull a print, how to mix ink, and register each layer.

    Session 1: Plan your design! We will begin by looking at some example screen prints then make colored sketches of our screen print designs. We will learn how to begin translating them into stencils and prep our screens.

    Session 2: Demo on how to print with a screen and how to mix ink! Print your first layer and create your next layer stencil, if time permits you can print your following layer. Learn how to register your prints. 

    Session 3: Continue working on printing.

    Session 4: Make final touches! Finish any printing that remains. Learn how to edition your prints. Students can participate in a print exchange if they would like.

    Students will be able to take home their screen to use again!

    All materials and tools will be provided for the class.

    Blind Embossing: Print Without Ink

    taught by Emily Roztocil


    Learn the basics of blind embossing/debossing! What is embossing/debossing? It is a technique that uses pressure to press textures and designs into paper. No ink is required to create an image! This class considers how to create an image or design, without common parameters like hue and value. You will learn a variety of embossing methods and at the end of the course you will have the opportunity to combine techniques and create personalized works.

    All materials and tools will be provided for the class.
