Robert Loveday

Lightforms

I create photographic images using colored light that is applied to natural objects.

My love of nature is deeply held. It is fascinating to me to apply an unorthodox overlay to a natural scene, and create a new visual result.

My interest in colored light application began indoors, experimenting with colors moving through materials. Later, I was driven outdoors to answer my question, Can I enhance textures using color?

For the past several years, I have brought a studio setup outside, to light natural subjects at night. Water and rock are particularly enjoyable to use as a substrate to apply color to. Scale and texture are affected by coloration.

I enjoy making photographs that provoke the viewer to question their perception of the scene.

Though my current photographs show identifiable subjects, my goal is to move my imaging further and further toward abstraction.

Robert Loveday’s exhibit is open for in-person viewing at Saratoga Arts in The Reception Area Gallery through November 2nd at 320 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY, open 9am-5pm Monday-Friday.
