Seasons in Upstate New York
My primary focus is landscape and seascape painting. I work with both oils and watercolors. My goal is to offer the viewer an experience of place where he/she feels drawn into and feels resonance with a place, remembered or imagined.
Most of my landscape paintings are of the Upstate New York area and Georgia where I grew up. My seascapes are of coastal Maine scenes. I’ve studied with Karen Blackwood, a well-known seascape artist in Newburyport, MA. I spent a week at the Great Camp Sagamore studying with Wes Sherman, a contemporary artist. I explored the Maine coast this past summer working with Carol Douglas at the Schoodic Institute. I’ve also studied with Colley Whisson, an Australian artist and traveled to downeast Maine to create plein air paintings of the more remote coastal areas. I am drawn to color and light, and studying with Robert O’Brien and Takeyce Walter has been helpful to me in developing these qualities in my paintings.
Many of my paintings are now in private collections in Maine, New York, Georgia, and Nebraska. I am still growing as a painter and learning new ways to express my vision.
Jane would have had her work on display in Saratoga Arts’ Members’ Hall Gallery Art in Public Places site for the month of May.
