"Friends find themselves in a fight for their lives when they sneak into an abandoned spinach factory to investigate the urban legend of the Sailor Man."

Join us in the Dee Sarno Theater for a very special screening of the spinach-packed slasher Popeye the Slayer Man followed by a Q&A with the film's producer Dylan Avery.

Popeye the Slayer Man (2025) is an independent horror film directed by Robert Michael Ryan and written by John Doolan. The film was shot in Oneonta and other upstate New York locations, with local production company Otsego Media among the production partners. The project emerged during the public-domain horror boom, following the entry of Popeye’s original 1929 comic-strip incarnation into the public domain. This allowed filmmakers to reinterpret the character independently, while the production brought professional feature filmmaking to Oneonta and showcased local locations and talent.

Filmmakers: stay after the film for a conversation with Dylan Avery of Otsego Media on their successes and strategies bringing low-budget independent feature filmmaking to Upstate NY!
