Teen studio program-Session 1

Mentor: Mary Jo Bradley

Grades 9-12

Course Summary:

This intensive 4 week studio program is specifically designed for high school artists (grades 9–12) preparing for the competitive transition to higher education or national art awards. The course will provide a bridge between high school art classes and college art or art school. Each student will receive a customized roadmap tailored to their specific goals—whether applying to elite BFA programs (like RISD or Pratt), or pursuing arts scholarships.

The curriculum balances technical mastery, such as observational drawing, with the goal of strengthening each artist’s unique "voice." The course will culminate in a portfolio they can use for college admissions and/or scholarship opportunities .

 About our teaching mentor:

Mary Jo is a multidisciplinary artist who experiments and creates with mixed media.  She is especially interested in helping young artists develop their ideas, strengthen their technical skills, and build confidence in their creative voice. Mary Jo’s teaching focuses on balancing foundational skills with experimentation so students can explore what excites them most in their work. She has built art programs in schools in both California and New York so young people can be supported and thrive in the arts. She is currently an assistant principal at a Boces k-12 virtual school. In her free time Mary Jo is creating and exploring nature with her family and dog, Walter.
