About the instructor

Kaila Kurz is a Queer Dis/abled local artist and educator. She enjoys dabbling in all art forms, but has really found a home within fiber arts and her preferred medium of micro-crochet. Her work is meant to be lived in, using various fiber types in the form of quilting, embroidery, and lace-weight crochet threads that are juxtaposed with metal findings and stones to create movement within her jewelry. Her inspiration is focused on contrast between oppositional forces, and the seeming contradiction of dainty, fine art that is meant to be worn, used, and touched on an everyday basis. During the week, Kaila can be found teaching K-12 Special Education Music at Capital Region BOCES. She firmly believes in access and equity within educational spaces, including the fiber arts, and you can often find her pulling fellow-crocheters aside at markets to show them the tips and tricks she has found to make crochet more accessible for all.
