  • 13 Jun 2021

This workshop gives an opportunity to compare and contrast 4 distinct fiddle styles heard throughout the US: NorthernUS/CanadianOld Time, Southern Appalachian, Irish and Swedish. By learning some of the elements specific to each tradition and their counterparts in the other traditions, participants’ ears will open to subtleties in ways that will serve them for years to come. Learning several tunes from each style aurally with attendant bowing and ornaments, will provide a sense of mastery as well as confidence to study further. The workshop is open to fiddlers of all levels, from advanced beginners to professionals. To accommodate the wide variation of needs an instructor will be available to work separately with novice students to insure that the basic rudiments are learned while allowing the more advanced students to move forward. Sheet music will be provided at the end of the workshop. Recording encouraged for later practice.
