Artist Statement

Sonya Sousa is an Albany based artist working primarily in digital art and collage. Her artwork features various layers of photographs, textiles, and objects to convey a bright, surrealist dream. Her favorite technique comes from carefully placing subjects atop water’s surface, to create a fluid movement and transparency for her photographs.

Sonya has been a commissioned artist for over five years- her work is featured in the independent music scene local to Albany, Hartford, and Berkeley. Sonya’s collaborations with various musicians have birthed album artwork for streaming and physical release, as well as merchandise and promotional material.

Having experimented with many mediums, Sonya has found true inspiration where digital photography and abstract art collide. Her most recent works strive to mesh the surreal and otherworldly with our soft, tangible reality.
