Artist Statement
All of my life I have marveled at the beauty of the sailing
ship. When I doodled in school it was always of what I envisioned as various
sailboats. Through the years historic ships, boat models, maritime books,
sailing and maritime art have become part of my life. I have spent thousands of
hours on sailing and motor yachts as captain. As it turns out I’m influenced by
my heritage…I am a direct descendant of Admiral William (Bull) Halsey of WW II.
My art depicts ships of a historic nature involved in
maritime trade, battles, racing and pleasure. I use cooler coloring and primal
painting techniques to maintain the kinetic character of the subject, it’s
place in history, and further preserve the beauty and charm of the sailing
ship. I give attention to the historical accuracy and detail of ships’ form and
rigging.
All of my paintings are original oils. They can
be purchased with or without frames. Similar paintings of different size or hue
can be commissioned.
