Uncommon Grounds - Saratoga

April 28th - May 30th, 2022

Artist Statement:

The main part of this collection will be a series of paintings focused on today’s society’s obsession with status and materialism. What’s more representative of that than United States currency? Combining my abstract background in painting with the intricacies of American bills and coins, I have created several large scale artworks. To draw the viewer in, I like to use bright and bold colors with a bit of pop culture, and often utilize uplifting or motivational quotes based on the subject. I create with a combination of acrylic paint, epoxy resin, collage, and texture. My hope is that every painting will invoke a positive impression - either with its color, composition, or quote. Additionally, with the wide expanse of walls at Uncommon Grounds, I will be showcasing black and white loosely painted portraits and colorful abstracts that complement the main collection. My work can be viewed on instagram at @michelebentonart or my website: michelembenton.com.
