Megan Kinney

Artist Statement

Megan Kinney creates collaged relief paintings that grasp on to the idea of nostalgia. In her art practice, she has a need to reconnect with her mother while focusing on healing and renewal. Her paintings center on revisiting moments and feelings will always be in the past. This means the paintings are not a realistic representation of that time. As memories get shared through the years it changes and expands and becomes more spirited even when details get lost. All that matters is the joy-in her paintings she recreates the memories by abstracting and overlaying them using vibrant colors with simple shapes created by collages fabric and paint.
