My art is a window into my life as a woman, mother, wife, art educator and artist. The work came about when I felt the need to really get my emotional state of mind out in a tangible way. Having preteen children and struggling with them transitioning from children into teenagers has been bewildering for me. These pieces of art express my memories of them as small children into my reality of my day to day life with my family, job, & self. Which is definitely not glamorous but is purposeful. Since I was a child I have always had the desire to create and it has never vanished into my adulthood. Navigating through it all and attempting to balance myself with my art was the goal through my creative process. Working small, recycling papers from my classroom and taking sketches from my sketchbook piecing them together like a puzzle gave me such satisfaction and joy. I’ve been an art teacher for the past 22 years at the Shenendehowa Central School district and I have always emphasized the importance of self expression and intention when making Art with my students. The process and ability to get your thoughts out visually connect us as people. My hope is when people look at my Artwork that they can instantly relate to it.
