Weaving Intensive & Open Studio (19 May 2026)

Weaving Intensive & Open Studio

taught by Nancy Sharples

Weavers of all levels will create individual projects. A beginner will learn how to warp the loom and weave a sampler or table runner. More advanced students can work on pattern and overshot threadings, double weaves or rug weaving techniques. Students will need to work extra hours outside of class time to complete their projects, but will have 24-7 access to the weaving studio for the entirety of the class.

A materials fee of $15 or more will be collected to cover the cost of yarn. Please bring a good pair of scissors. All other materials and tools will be provided for the class.

Upcycled Summer Rag Wreath Workshop

Add a handmade touch to your summer décor while giving new life to old clothing! In this creative, hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to upcycle denim and other sturdy fabrics into a charming summer rag wreath. The instructor will guide you step by step through basic crafting techniques, from fabric preparation to wreath assembly, so no prior experience is needed. You’ll leave with a finished wreath ready to display at home or give as a gift.

What to Bring:

· An old pair of jeans, chinos, or twill pants to upcycle

· Fabric scissors (if you have them)

All other materials and instruction will be provided.

Meet the Instructor:

Alice Kaplan is an inter-disciplinary artist who primarily paints in oil and acrylics and also creates beaded jewelry and textile art and in original designs. She maintains a studio at 79 Beekman St. in the Saratoga Springs Art District where she has various works on display in the stairwell gallery. She has participated in various group shows, member shows and art events in upstate NY with the Beekman Street Artists Group, Saratoga Arts and Saratoga Springs Art District Inc.

Alice has also volunteered for many years teaching arts and crafts to children in the Saratoga area, both as a Girl Scout leader, and as a member of the Saratoga Springs High School Drama Club technical team where she has coordinated scenic design for more than a dozen musical productions.

Nap Time Hoops-Embroider a sleepy kitty (or puppy)

taught by Marcie Brozyna

Drawing inspiration from the classic railway sleepy kitty “Chessie,” participants in this beginner-friendly class will embroider a customized sleepy kitten or puppy design of their choosing. You’ll learn four classic stitches while embroidering your pre-stamped image.

With your instructor’s guidance you’ll learn:

Foundational embroidery stitches you can use again and again
How to decipher and follow embroidery pattern directions
Practical tips, troubleshooting methods, and techniques for finishing the back of your project

All supplies are included:

– 6” bamboo embroidery hoop

– Needles + floss

– Needle threader and felt needle case

– High quality cotton or cotton/linen blend fabric pre-stamped with the instructor’s hand drawn design

– Illustrations and written instructions for the pattern and its stitches

By the end of class, you’ll have a completed (or nearly completed) work of art and the confidence to help you tackle future projects.

*When signing up please indicate whether you would like a cat or dog pattern and make note of your preferred coloring for the animal. For cats, note your preference between short or long hair, and for dogs please tell us the (approximate) breed.

Marcie’s warm and relaxed classes feature her own hand-drawn vintage-inspired designs and focus on classic needlework stitches.
