BRENTON SMITH, 2022 juried exhibition

320 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY

May 7th - June 11th, 2022

Artist Statement:

My Professor Regis Brodie told me one day, in critique, that I would turn my computer work into an art form. That was the beginning of my long path toward merging photography with drawing and painting. My dream would not be realized until I started using my love of science in my artwork. Using principles of collage, I started pulling together different images and started positioning them in such a way as to give the viewer the aha moment when a CPU was put next to DNA strand or when a drawing of a human was put next to carbon chain. I then started using Jackson Pollock style of spontaneity to merge different images together, added with a splash of abstract painting. What should the viewer come away with after viewing my artwork? Connection.
