February 11th - March 18th, 2023

 Artist Statement:

My love of architecture started in an Architectural Drawing class in High School. Later in life I developed an interest in abstract art and was intrigued with artists such as Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko. I tried to figure out what style it was that I wanted to photograph when I discovered the Finnish photographer Ola Kolehmainen, and his work in Architectural Abstracts Photography. I noticed that some of my work was along this line and realized that this was an area that I wanted to explore more deeply.

I started looking at structures, not in their entirety but in segments that most people don’t see. I see shapes, circles, leading lines, perspectives and textures of building materials, the smoothness of glass and steel and the roughness of concrete, stone and brick. I love how repeating patterns or leading lines work together, how different shapes compliment or contrast with each other. I liked the juxtaposition of element within a photo or among several photos in a group showing.
